Job Description:
- Support the HVAC team (UK and India) for the development, implementation and testing of HVAC comfort, safety, and energy efficiency features for the Indian and European markets. This wide role involves working with different teams and projects and hence provides a unique opportunity to keep developing skills. The Controls Development and Testing Engineer must have experience with Systems Engineering processes and methods, rapid control prototyping and testing systems of electronic control systems.
Main Activities and Tasks:
- Conceptualisation, design, and proof of concept of new control strategies for a variety of systems related mainly but not only to HVAC applications (including heat-pumps)
- Model based design and model-based systems engineering.
- Develop and test HVAC hardware and software solutions on bench (e.g MIL/SIL/HIL) and vehicle using commercial solutions such as simulation and validation tools e.g., IPG/dSPACE/NI/Kuli/GT-Suite.
- Support the delivery of Engineering sign off through DVP and report DV progress through our validation and verification tool.
- Algorithm development and testing using at least one of C++/ Python/Matlab/Simulink.
- Support all projects’ technical activities to meet customer deadlines and Milestones.
- Support with supplier evaluation.
Other Features of Role:
- Work with identified services partners in India.
- Track and evaluate the deliverables from suppliers.
- Work with companies in the AI and ML domains to introduce new technologies.
- Support with the creation of unit, subsystem, and system documentation.
- Support with the creation of documents such as SOW, SOR, RFQ etc.
- Vehicle benchmarking.
- Travel to Pune, India will be required.
Experience Required:
- Proven track record in the effective delivery of technical objectives to quality and time targets.
- Experienced user of one of MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow/C/Python for embedded control system design and validation.
- Experience with calibration tools, e.g., INCA or CANape, ControlDesk.
- Experience with rapid prototyping tools for building and testing code for in-vehicle or on rig implementation.
- Experienced with rig and vehicle level validation testing inc. defining test specifications and instrumentation requirements (i.e., V-Cycle).
- Familiar with electrical debugging on vehicle, e.g., harnessing, continuity checking, isolation checking, etc.
Experience Preferred:
- A minimum of five years automotive or other relevant industry experience.
- Experience with software version control tools, requirements management, software change request (SCR) management.
Knowledge Required:
- Demonstrates depth of knowledge in a relevant technical speciality or an acknowledged industry expert in one or more areas.
- Knowledge of plant/controller modelling techniques and control methodologies, e.g., Matlab/Simulink, Python, C/C++.
- Basic knowledge of optimisation techniques.
- Data acquisition and analysis skills.
- Understanding of in-vehicle HVAC systems including low GWP refrigerants and heat-pumps.
- Rapid control prototyping.
Knowledge Preferred:
- Understanding and appreciation of EV / hybrid powertrain components and architectures.
- Understanding of basic software configuration and controller hardware specification.
- Understanding of ISO 26262 requirements for software development.
- Basic knowledge of at least one of: IPG CarMaker/dSPACE/NI Toolchains.
- Vehicle dynamics controls knowledge will be an advantage.
Qualifications Required:
- Degree qualified or similar qualification minimum, PhD qualification desirable.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Chartered Engineer.
