Battery Cell Integration & Test Engineer
Our automotive OEM Client based in Dunton, Essex in the United Kingdom are searching for a Battery Cell Integration & Test Engineer to join their innovative design and engineering team. This position is confirmed as Inside IR35 and therefore will be subject to full PAYE tax. Details of this can be provided on request.
The position is listed with open negotiation, which means we can submit candidates with their salary expectations as there is no fixed remuneration, therefore we request candidates to submit their desired salary with their application where possible.
This is a 12-month contract with possibility of extension. The working pattern is 37 hours per working week and our Client are open to hybrid working discussions.
Position Description
This is an opportunity to for a Battery Cell Integration & Test Engineer with interest and experience in battery cell technology. The individual will be responsible for determining battery cell capability and performance, and interfacing with battery pack and vehicle teams to integrate the cell for use in Mild Hybrid (mHEV), Full Hybrid (FHEV), Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and Battery Electric (BEV) vehicles. Responsibilities:
- Interface with core and unit battery pack engineering teams (thermal, mechanical, and electrical).
- Interface with hybrid vehicle systems teams, energy analysis team.
- Analyse vehicle and battery pack data as related to cell usage, performance, and life.
- Cell performance, life, and degradation investigations and testing. Co-ordinate this work with cell modelling team.
- Develop calibrations for cell-related battery controls, support advanced controls algorithm development.
Skills Required
- Lead core design and release activities for electrified vehicle battery cell component.
- Support cell related Unit GPDS deliverables for next generation battery programs.
- Work with cell suppliers to develop quality documents for production (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Engineering Specification).
- Support cell supplier validation items, coordinate regular communications with cell supplier (develop and coordinate test plans, review test data, evaluate design changes).
- Coordinate and/or conduct cell and battery pack characterization testing; analyze test data and provide engineering recommendations.
- Develop cell and battery pack test methods, Key Life Test development and evaluation.
- Assist with new battery cell technology assessments.
- Support battery localization activities.
- Awareness of and compliance with high-voltage safety practices.
Skills Preferred
- Educated to a degree level in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineer with emphasis on energy storage or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with battery experience.
- 3 months+ direct experience with analysing/evaluating designs and data.
- Knowledge of current hybrid technologies/ battery / power electronics and components desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technically challenging projects working cross functionally.
- Knowledge of: CAD, Product development processes, managing engineering deliverables, Vehicle Bill of Material tracking and reporting, financial control and reporting, Electrified powertrain key components and systems.
- Demonstrable experience of working independently.
- Ability to quickly obtain and grow knowledge in a rapidly developing technology.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with excellent team building and leadership skills.
- Must have valid UK or EU driving license & willingness to travel as needed.
- Has an enthusiasm for electrification and awareness of other vehicle area requirements and the integration and integration challenges that they present in delivering a vehicle level solution that meets all attributes.
- Experience of using data analysis software (MATLAB, Excel, INCA, ATI).
- Familiarity with powertrain controls, battery controls, test scripting, and CAN.
- Knowledge of battery test equipment (cyclers, thermal chambers, chillers).
- High Voltage Safety Training.
