Job Purpose:
The role of the 3D Designer is to create innovative designs for the exterior and interior of touring caravans and motorhomes. The key feature of this role is the 3D CAD modelling and surfacing of moulded shapes.
The majority designs created will need to be surfaced to a level that allows for tools to be manufactured. These may be large GRP tools, vacuum form tools or injection moulded tools. The deliverable CAD is expected to be component surface only as any tooling will be generated by our suppliers.
The candidate will be offered technical and skills support, as well as being encouraged to explore new technologies and techniques. The Client is committed to personal development and training.
- To create new designs for all Group products with a focus on 3D moulded form components.
- To explore new technologies and techniques for CAD development purposes.
- To ensure all new CAD designs are accurate and dimensionally correct.
- To work within the team to ensure that all designs are manufacturable.
- To adhere to company and departmental process and procedures.
- Develop official documentation where appropriate.
- To become authoritative in the team adding value by suggesting improvements to the product and processes.
- To develop an intimate knowledge of the CAD design and surfacing techniques and technology.
- To provide the rest of the company with expertise in the section.
- Participate with the project teams as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have to work in a team of designers and engineers respecting the business requirements of the design proposals and supporting problem solving to achieve the best results.
Knowledge and Experience:
Essential skills required include:
- Creative Design qualifications to Degree level
- Automotive exterior design skills
- Automotive, transportation or architectural interior design skills
- Good 3D CAD modelling skills using Alias or 3DS Studio Max (2 years +)
- Good Adobe Photoshop skills essential
- Importing and exporting CAD data experience
- Strong time management skills
- Reliable, focused and detail orientated
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a fast paced environment
- Manufacturing experience
- Automotive design experience
- Understanding of moulding technologies such as vacuum forming, injection and compression moulding
- CAD rendering experience
- Studio environment experience
