Battery Cell Array Engineer
Our automotive OEM Client based in Dunton, Essex in the United Kingdom are searching for a Battery Cell Array Engineer to join their innovative design and engineering team. This position is confirmed as Inside IR35 and therefore will be subject to full PAYE tax. Details of this can be provided on request.
The position is listed with open negotiation, which means we can submit candidates with their salary expectations as there is no fixed remuneration, therefore we request candidates to submit their desired salary with their application where possible.
This is a 12-month contract with possibility of extension. The working pattern is 37 hours per working week and our Client are open to hybrid working discussions.
Position Description
This is an opportunity for a Battery Cell/Array Engineer with interest and experience in battery cell technology. The individual will be responsible for providing technical assessments related to battery cells/arrays used across Mild Hybrid (mHEV), Full Hybrid (FHEV), Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and Battery Electric (BEV) vehicles.
Skills Required
- Educated to a degree level in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineer with emphasis on energy storage or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with battery experience.
- Knowledge & experience of working with Li-ion chemistries in academic or industry setting.
- Strong understanding of Li-Ion chemistries, performance, thermodynamics, degradation mechanisms, battery management systems.
- Strong problem solving and analytical ability.
- Knowledge of current hybrid technologies/ battery / power electronics and components desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technically challenging projects working cross functionally.
Skills Preferred
- Demonstrable experience of working independently.
- Ability to quickly obtain and grow knowledge in a rapidly developing technology.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, willingness to learn, with excellent team building and leadership skills.
- Must have valid UK or EU driving license & willingness to travel as needed.
- Has an enthusiasm for electrification and awareness of other vehicle area requirements and the integration and integration challenges that they present in delivering a vehicle level solution that meets all attributes.
- PhD in Electrochemistry/Material Science or Chemical engineering desirable.
Experience Required- Understanding and experience of battery cell chemical analysis.
- Experience of Li-Ion battery and/or fuel cell modelling.
- Experience of using data analysis software (MATLAB, Excel, INCA, ATI).
- Familiarity with powertrain controls, battery controls, test scripting, and CAN.
- Knowledge of battery test equipment (cyclers, thermal chambers, chillers).
- High Voltage Safety Training.
