Our OEM Client based in Whitley, Coventry, is searching for a Project Design Engineer to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a contract position until 31st March 2026.
Umbrella Pay Rate: £27.03 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership and Management:
- Participate in regular KPI reviews on the allocated projects and ensure on time delivery. Understand and promote Scrum values, helping team members embrace these values.
- Complete training programs assigned on time and as per business needs.
- Participate in regular check-ins with reporting manager and address any concerns.
- Showcase success stories in each sprint to the wider team and celebrate success.
- Technical Expertise and Mentoring:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather testing requirements.
- Address all the technical queries and escalations on time.
- Deliver system rig design as per the design standards within project timelines.
- Create system Rig Design artefacts and deliver to meet First Time Right metrics target.
- Promote Scrum values and help team members embrace these values.
- Decompose test requirements to architect systems supporting development and validation activities.
- Quality Management and Process:
- Capture Lessons Learned from projects and share it with the team.
- Maintain our client's way documents updated and as per audit compliance.
- Support activities for positive audit outcomes (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Follow established processes to ensure quality delivery.
- Implement continuous improvement projects to enhance team performance and output quality.
- People Management and Delivery:
- Deliver high-quality system designs, including requirements capture, system architecture, network architecture, wiring designs, cooling circuit schematics, bill of materials, and simulation requirements.
- Embrace agile methodology and follow scrum values for incremental product delivery.
- Deliver quality design specifications within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Work with lead operations engineers to hand over system designs for implementation and operation.
- Identify and resolve risks early to prevent project obstacles.
- Demonstrate experience in Agile Methodology, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Stakeholder Management and Collaboration:
- Ensure alignment with technical requirements and standards through cross-functional collaboration.
- Update the design pack as per the audit feedback.
- Practice servant leadership and be flexible to changes, embracing Agile principles.
- Maintain JIRA stories updated and escalate any impediments on time and proactively.
- Maintain clear and concise communication with all stakeholders.
- Flexibility:
- Undertake directed tasks in alignment with job requirements.
Essential Skills:
- Experience delivering projects and developing complex systems in an Agile environment, ideally with Scrum implementation.
- Experience designing and/or validating electrified powertrains.
- Experience integrating complex systems.
- Ability to challenge existing ideas and processes to improve team performance.
- Ability to present complex technical ideas or project issues clearly to diverse audiences.
Desirable Skills:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Controls, or Systems Engineering.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visio and Excel.
- Strong communication skills with a customer-focused attitude.
- Scrum Master qualifications.
- Experience with automotive networks, electrical distribution systems, voltage instrumentation, hardware-in-loop simulation, and cooling systems.
- Six Sigma or problem-solving training and certification.
- Understanding of relevant automotive standards and health and safety regulations.
