Our OEM Client based in Gaydon, is searching for a Battery Test Delivery Engineer to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a contract position with a proposed end date of 31st March 2027.
Umbrella Pay Rate: £27.03 per hour.
The Opportunity:
Using state-of-the-art facilities, you’ll provide the power behind our vehicles working in our Engineering Operations Powertrain team. The company has made a major investment in new testing capability to ensure future Powertrain development can take place and meet the business requirement to develop new and exciting products.
The Battery Test Operations Team is part of Powertrain Test Operations within Product Engineering Operations. The team maintains productive test workflow for HV Battery development at our internal test labs at ABE Lyons Park (Coventry) and BatLab (Gaydon), delivering high quality electrical characterisation and performance data at cell, module and pack level. The team also supports HV battery activity at other internal JLR sites and External test facilities.
The Battery Test Delivery Engineer roles will focus on the efficient delivery of quality assured test data in support of the development and design verification (DV) of HV Traction Battery Systems. Based at either the Advanced Battery Engineering lab (ABE) in Coventry or BatLab in Gaydon, you’ll operate across the facility, co-ordinating test preparation, planning and delivery, managing workflows for your allocated tests, and leading problem-solving activities to ensure the satisfaction of customer test requests, ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Take full ownership of battery test delivery by ensuring thorough preparation of both the test facility and test components, while adhering to agreed test schedules to enable the timely and accurate delivery of data.
- Provide technical expertise in the setup and execution of battery tests, including the measurement and interpretation of data that will inform key engineering decisions.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the activities of small project teams to ensure testing objectives are met efficiently and effectively.
- Support the review of test requests, assessing their feasibility and ensuring they fall below EUCAR Hazard Level 4.
- Act as a champion for process documentation in line with the Way and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), while also supporting the collection and reporting of team KPIs to LL6 and senior management.
Skills Required:
- Demonstrated experience in supervising engineering teams, offering technical advice and guidance, and a proven ability to mentor and train others—particularly technicians, apprentices, and skilled associates.
- Extensive experience in requirements capture, data acquisition, control systems, programming of automated tests, as well as the analysis and reporting of test data.
- A natural problem-solver with a structured and methodical approach to resolving technical challenges in complex environments.
- Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations, including Risk Assessments, COSHH, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Sound knowledge of working in high-voltage or high-risk environments, with hands-on experience in Lithium-ion battery technology.
- An individual who can positively challenge existing thinking while building credibility and trust through both experience and personal approach—aligned with and championing Creators’ Code.
